OPENING UP OPPORTUNITIES FOR AVALON | MARLES AND KING
RICHARD MARLES MP
MEMBER FOR CORIO
CATHERINE KING MP
MEMBER FOR BALLARAT
A re-elected Albanese Labor Government will invest $5 million to build Victoria’s future, supporting the growth of Avalon Airport into a strategic transport and logistics hub.
Geelong is one of the fastest growing urban areas in the country. As the region grows, the airport is undergoing a significant transformation to become a transport and logistics hub to better service the community and boost the economy.
The Albanese Government recognises the untapped opportunities for Avalon and so does industry, with local and international companies choosing to establish themselves here.
This election commitment will support the airport’s planned developments. It will provide $5 million to the City of Geelong and Victorian Government to fund a feasibility study to explore options to upgrade Beach Road at Avalon, improve access to the Airport and help transform the precinct into a transport and logistics hub.
There are now around 2,500 employees working on site at Avalon each day, putting pressure on these roads.
Upgrades planned for the airport include a runway extension, a terminal expansion and a new freight facility. The approved Master Plan also includes the development of residential hotels, retail, commercial and industrial areas.
As Avalon continues to grow, a re-elected Albanese Government will explore opportunities to better connect the airport, the industrial hub and the Port Wilson Wharf at Corio Bay and drive further economic growth in the region.
The Albanese Government is also committed to looking at options to bolster the precinct’s security.
As Avalon continues to grow so do the opportunities for more jobs, greater investment and a future made in Australia.
The following can be attributed to the Member for Corio, Richard Marles:
“There is a huge opportunity here to link up Avalon airport, the industrial park and Port Wilson Wharf into a transport logistics hub and create even more jobs here.
“This feasibility study will look at a range of options for the airport, including upgrades to roads and improved access to support Avalon’s growth.”
The following can be attributed to the Member for Ballarat, Catherine King:
“Avalon Airport is a significant employer and economic driver for the region, and it’s important that we get the surrounding road infrastructure right for staff and travellers as well as freight and logistics movement.
“This investment will support the growth of Avalon Airport into the future.”
